TV Mounting Above a Fireplace in Thornhill
After moving into their Thornhill home, the homeowner wanted to mount a large TV above the fireplace using a full-motion bracket. Before installation, however, there was an important concern: whether the existing wall structure could safely support the television and the additional leverage created by an adjustable mount.
CanRenovation inspected the fireplace wall before beginning the installation. Because a full-motion TV mount can place more stress on a wall than a fixed bracket, the existing structure needed reinforcement before the TV could be mounted securely.
Reinforcing the Wall for the TV Mount
To access the framing behind the fireplace wall, a section of drywall was carefully opened. The internal structure was then reinforced to provide a solid mounting point for the full-motion TV bracket.
This additional preparation was an important part of the project. Rather than attaching the mount without knowing what was behind the finished wall, the reinforcement created a more dependable foundation for the television and allowed the bracket to be positioned where the homeowner wanted it.
Drywall Repair and Paint Matching
Once the wall reinforcement was complete, the opened section was closed with new drywall. The repaired area received a multi-coat plaster finish to restore a smooth surface and blend the repair into the surrounding fireplace wall.
The wall was then painted to match the existing finish. By completing the structural work, drywall repair, and paint touch-up as part of the same project, the finished installation did not leave visible signs of the reinforcement work behind the wall.
Full-Motion TV Mount Installation
With the wall reinforced and refinished, the full-motion TV mount was installed and adjusted for the large television. The bracket was checked to make sure the TV could extend, tilt, and swivel smoothly while remaining securely supported.
The completed installation gave the homeowner the flexibility of an adjustable TV position while maintaining a clean appearance above the fireplace.
The Finished Thornhill TV Mounting Project
The final result was a clean fireplace-wall installation with the reinforcement hidden behind the finished drywall and the television securely mounted on its full-motion bracket. More than two years after the project was completed, the installation continued to perform as intended without visible wall damage, sagging, or loosening.
