This project involved a fire-rated door installation at a property in Vaughan, replacing an existing opening with a new fire-rated steel door to improve building safety, security, and fire code compliance. The work started with preparing the existing masonry opening to receive the new frame and door, making sure everything was plumb, square, and within the clearances required for a rated assembly. Once the door and frame were properly set and secured, the perimeter gap between the frame and the surrounding masonry was filled using fire-rated foam — not standard construction foam, which isn't suitable for this kind of opening, since it can't maintain the fire barrier the way a listed, fire-rated product can. Hardware prep was also part of the job: the opening for the handle was cut and drilled, and the handle hardware was fitted and installed into the door.
