Interior Door Installation Project in Scarborough
This Scarborough project started with a rough, unfinished doorway opening between two rooms. The opening had exposed drywall edges, no finished door frame, and no door in place, so the goal was to turn it into a complete interior entry that looked properly integrated with the surrounding walls and trim.
CanRenovation assessed the opening before installation to make sure the new frame and door could be fitted square and level. Starting with the opening itself was important because proper alignment affects how smoothly an interior door opens, closes, and latches once the installation is complete.
Installing and Aligning the New Door Frame
A new door frame was fitted into the existing opening and carefully shimmed to keep it level, plumb, and properly aligned. The frame was then secured so it could provide a stable base for the hinges and door.
Taking the time to set the frame correctly helped create consistent spacing around the door and reduced the risk of rubbing, sticking, or uneven gaps after installation.
Hanging the Six-Panel Interior Door
With the frame in place, a classic six-panel interior door was installed and aligned on its hinges. The swing and clearance were checked so the door could open and close smoothly without contacting the frame or surrounding trim.
The door was adjusted as needed to maintain even reveal lines around the perimeter and provide a clean, balanced fit inside the new frame.
Door Casing, Trim, and Hardware Installation
Door casing and trim were installed around the opening to cover the transition between the new frame and the surrounding wall. The corner joints were carefully fitted and finished to give the doorway a clean, built-in appearance.
The trim was caulked and painted to coordinate with the existing baseboards and surrounding finishes. A matte black lever handle was then installed to complete the door and add contrast against the lighter door and trim.

The completed installation transformed the unfinished opening into a fully framed and functional interior doorway. The new six-panel door, casing, trim, and lever hardware worked together to give the space a finished appearance while allowing the door to operate smoothly.
