Caulking & Mold Removal in Summerhill

A returning CanRenovation client in Summerhill contacted us to address extensive mold buildup and deteriorated caulking across three bathrooms in a four-level house. The project included two steam showers and one tub bathroom, with mold affecting caulking, grout lines, shower corners, glass-door seals, and vanity areas. We removed the contaminated caulking, thoroughly cleaned and treated the affected surfaces, provided proper ventilation and drying time, replaced damaged shower-door water seals, and applied fresh caulking throughout all three bathrooms.

Mold and Caulking Problems Across Three Bathrooms A returning CanRenovation client in Summerhill contacted us after previously hiring our professionals for drywall repair and interior painting. This time, the homeowner needed help with significant mold buildup and deteriorated caulking in three bathrooms throughout the house. The project involved a steam shower in the basement, a tub bathroom on the second floor, and a large primary bathroom with another steam shower on the third floor. Basement Steam Shower Mold Removal The basement steam shower had the most extensive mold buildup. Mosaic wall tiles created numerous grout lines, many of which had developed visible mold. The existing caulking along the wall-to-wall and wall-to-floor transitions was also heavily affected. Limited ventilation had contributed to the problem. We removed the old mold-affected caulking and thoroughly cleaned the grout lines using appropriate brushes and mold-removal treatment. After cleaning, the affected areas were treated again and left to sit while fans provided continuous air circulation and improved ventilation. The shower was given approximately 24–48 hours for treatment and drying before we returned to complete the new caulking. The deteriorated water seals around the glass shower door were also replaced. After the new caulking was completed, the steam shower was left for approximately 72 hours before being put back into use. Tub Caulking Replacement The second-floor bathroom had a bathtub with a continuous dark line of mold along the existing caulking surrounding the tub. Mold and deteriorated caulking were also present where the bottom of the tub met the bathroom floor. We removed the affected caulking, cleaned and treated the surfaces, allowed adequate drying and ventilation time, and then applied fresh caulking around the required areas. This bathroom was ready for use approximately 24 hours after the new caulking was completed. Primary Bathroom Steam Shower and Vanity Caulking The third-floor primary bathroom required work in several areas. The large double-vanity countertop had deteriorated and mold-affected caulking that was completely removed, treated, cleaned, and replaced. The bathroom also included a large separate steam shower with a glass enclosure, bench, and shower niche. Existing caulking was removed from the affected corners and transitions, followed by mold treatment, cleaning, ventilation, and sufficient drying time before fresh caulking was applied. The mold-affected water seals around the glass shower door were replaced as part of the work as well. Coordinated Treatment for All Three Bathrooms Rather than treating each bathroom as a separate project, CanRenovation coordinated the work in stages. Old caulking was removed and mold treatment was performed across all three bathrooms first, allowing the treated surfaces sufficient time to dry before the final caulking stage. This approach allowed the necessary treatment and drying time without rushing the process. The tub bathroom was ready for use after approximately 24 hours, while the two steam showers were given approximately 72 hours after caulking before returning to regular use. For this returning client, the project provided a thorough refresh of three heavily used bathroom areas while addressing both deteriorated caulking and visible mold buildup.
