Door Hinge Repair – Downtown Toronto

A loose hinge on a hollow-core door in Toronto had been patched with oversized screws one too many times — here's how it was properly fixed for good.

Door Hinge Repair – Downtown Toronto
This door had a loose hinge that was barely hanging on — enough that it had nearly separated from the door entirely. Looking closer, it was obvious this wasn't the first attempt to fix it. Someone had tried patching it before, more than once, each time going up to a bigger screw to get some grip. The problem is, this was a hollow-core door, and bigger screws aren't really a fix on a door like that — they just chew up more material and buy a little time before the same thing happens again. Instead of repeating that cycle, our CanRenovation technician took a different approach. All the old, stripped-out holes were filled properly and sanded down until the surface was smooth and even again — basically starting fresh instead of building on top of the damage. Once that base was solid, the hinge was reattached using screws sized correctly for the door's actual material, giving it something real to bite into. The door swings and closes properly again, and this time the fix should actually hold instead of needing another patch job in a few months.
