This project started with a baseboard installation job at a condo in North York. While CanRenovation was on site fitting new baseboards, the client mentioned a second issue — a section of vinyl plank flooring nearby had started separating at the seams, leaving visible gaps between planks and an uneven feel underfoot. Separated vinyl planks are a common issue, usually caused by temperature and humidity fluctuations, minor subfloor movement, or planks that weren't fully locked together during the original installation. Left alone, small gaps tend to get worse over time as foot traffic and further expansion and contraction pull the planks further apart, eventually creating tripping hazards or exposing the subfloor underneath. Our CanRenovation technician inspected the affected area, cleaned out the joints, and carefully reseated each separated plank using a tapping block to close the gaps without damaging the locking edges. Where the click-lock mechanism had weakened, a flexible adhesive was used underneath to hold the planks securely in place going forward. The surrounding baseboards — freshly installed as part of the same visit — were used to conceal the expansion gap along the wall for a clean, finished look. The result was a smooth, secure, and seamless vinyl floor repair, with no visible gaps or lippage between planks. Handling both the baseboard work and the flooring fix in a single visit saved the client a second appointment and got the whole space looking finished at once.
