Top-of-Stairs Baby Gate Installation Project in Downtown Toronto
This Downtown Toronto project involved installing a hardware-mounted baby gate at the top of a staircase. The existing baseboard affected where the gate could be positioned, so the installation also required a small trim modification before the mounting hardware could be fitted correctly.
CanRenovation first reviewed the stair opening, wall surfaces, door-frame area, and baseboard placement so the gate could be positioned appropriately for the available space.
Assessing the Stairway and Mounting Area
The width of the stair opening and the available mounting points on both sides were checked before installation began. The existing baseboard created interference near the intended mounting position and needed to be addressed before the gate hardware could sit properly.
The project used a hardware-mounted gate rather than a pressure-fit setup, with the installation focused on creating secure attachment points at the top of the stairs.
Modifying the Baseboard for Gate Placement
A section of the existing baseboard was carefully cut back where it interfered with the gate mounting position. This allowed the mounting hardware to sit at the required location without forcing the gate higher than intended.
After the adjustment, the modified trim area was patched and finished so the baseboard transition remained neat around the new gate installation.
Mounting and Aligning the Baby Gate
The baby gate hardware was secured to the available mounting surfaces on both sides of the stair opening. The gate was then positioned and leveled so it could open, close, and latch consistently.
After installation, the mounting points and latch mechanism were checked and the gate was operated several times to confirm that it remained aligned and securely attached.
The Finished Downtown Toronto Baby Gate Installation
The completed project left the top of the staircase fitted with a hardware-mounted baby gate, with the surrounding baseboard adjusted and finished around the installation.
