Baby Gate Installation for Stairs – Downtown Toronto

A hardware-mounted safety gate was installed at the top of the stairs to keep a growing family's home baby-proofed and secure, with baseboard modifications to get the height right.

Baby Gate Installation for Stairs – Downtown Toronto
Stairs are one of the first things parents worry about once a baby starts crawling or walking, and a properly mounted gate is one of the simplest ways to fix that. This client reached out for a baby gate installation at the top of the staircase in their downtown home. One complication came up during installation: mounting the gate at a safe height meant it would conflict with the existing baseboard. Rather than mounting it too high and leaving a gap a child could squeeze through or climb, our technician cut back a section of the baseboard so the gate could sit at the correct, safe height. The cut area was then patched and finished so it wouldn't stand out or look like an afterthought. The gate itself was mounted directly into the wall and door frame rather than using a pressure-fit setup — the right approach for a stair safety gate, since a pressure-mounted gate can pop loose under enough force, and that's not a risk worth taking at the top of a staircase. It was leveled, secured on both sides, and tested to confirm it latched firmly and couldn't be pushed open, exactly what a proper safety gate installation requires. Once everything was done, the stairs were properly secured at the right height, and the baseboard repair kept the finished look clean instead of leaving a visible patch job.
